Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and overall management of conditions that are due to mechanical dysfunction of the joints and muscles and its effects on the nervous system. Chiropractic stresses the relationship between structure and function in the body. Focusing on the spine and nervous system, chiropractic treatment is based on the premise that improper nerve transmissions throughout the body will lead to decreased function of multiple systems, decreased performance, pain and disease.

The philosophy behind chiropractic is that the body has the capability of healing itself.

If factors of accident or lifestyle lead to poor, inadequate, or incorrect function in the spine or the joints, irritation of nerves and muscles can occur, causing direct or referred pain or discomfort, or even disease. Chiropractors use their skills and techniques to detect Subluxations or areas of misalignments. They then restore normal function through a technique known as an adjustment and allow for self-healing to occur.

Healing can only occur from within; there are no doctors, drugs or surgeries that can heal you.

The power that made the body heals the body. Medical interventions are necessary during emergency type situations and can save your life, but it is always the body that heals.

A four inch incision will heal perfectly fine after being stitched. If you were to stitch a cut piece of steak, would it heal the same way? The answer is of course, no, the healing energy is no longer present in the steak, therefore it cannot heal. Chiropractic works so well because we assist the body in healing itself.

Chiropractors allow for the natural or innate intelligence that we all posses to function optimally. Physical Subluxations can occur from any type of physical stress. Major physical stress will occur from injuries acquired from sports such as a football hit, running into a wall, motor vehicle accident, missing a step or falling down the stairs. This is the easiest means of Subluxation to understand. If you get hit hard enough, you are going to misalign some skeletal structures! Minor physical stress Subluxations occur from repetitive type actions that we do as human beings. Don’t let the name fool you, just because the Subluxation did not occur from a major force, it does not lessen the effect that it has on nervous system and your health. The hair stylist that holds her arms up for hours at a time, the data entry person that stares at the computer with his head turned all day long and the mail handler filtering through thousands of magazines and envelopes every day are all examples of holding our bodies in positions for lengths of time that aren’t congruent with how our bodies were designed to move.

Chemical Subluxations are caused from the ingestion of substances that are not congruent with our genetic makeup. In other words, toxins that we eat, drink, smell, breathe and rub on our skins can cause Subluxations. The alignment of the joints of the body is dependent on the muscle tone that surrounds them. If the tone is disrupted due to chemical imbalances, the joints will misalign and subluxate.

The body has a very delicate balance of chemistry. That balance can be thrown off from processed foods, refined wheat, grains and sugar, smoking, alcohol and caffeine, just to name a few.

Estimates of the number of chemicals and toxins we are exposed to daily are in the thousands. This is extremely higher than 100 years ago when many of chemicals didn’t even exist. Our bodies have natural filtration systems in the lymphatics, kidneys, skin and liver to help detoxify us. These systems were never intended to handle the number of chemicals that we are exposed to these days and get bogged down and unable to completely detoxify. The result is a toxic physiology which involves improper muscle tone and nerve transmission due to Subluxation. Emotional Subluxations are caused from an overactive Lymbic portion of the brain. Constant concern or worry over things we can’t control, mental stress for any reason and trying to keep up in today’s fast paced society can wreak havoc on your neurology and body. One of the results is increased and often times unbalanced tension to muscles surrounding the joints of the spine and other joints. Think of the last time you were in a stressful or fearful situation, you most likely felt the increased tension in your back, neck and shoulders. This increased tension can lead to Subluxation and a number of other ailments such as headaches and dizziness. Combination Subluxations result when one or more of the above descriptions occur together. Sometimes a low impact or injury isn’t enough to cause a Subluxation, but if muscles were already tense to due stress, the combination reaches the threshold to cause a misalignment. The stress of taking a final exam may not be enough to cause a Subluxation. However, combined with lack of sleep and coffee the night before, is enough to cause misalignment. It reflects the saying “The sum is greater than the whole of its parts.” Subluxations occur regularly and are common in everyone from birth until death. They are one of those things that are virtually impossible to avoid in today’s society.

Proper lifestyle choices, exercise routines and meditation can help decrease the occurrence of Subluxation, but life happens! Subluxations are often times present even before there is pain, discomfort or an awareness of decreased function. It is important to be checked regularly by a chiropractor to correct Subluxations before they lead to greater problems. Chiropractic is very much a preventive form of healthcare in addition to addressing complaints. Health is much deeper than simply feeling good. It involves proper homeostasis of all systems in the body. The World Health Organization defines health as: “A state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmary.” Crevar Chiropractic is a wellness clinic; we encourage regular Chiropractic adjustments to ensure proper health.
